The CBI on Monday filed a chargesheet accusing Sanjay Roy, who was a civic volunteer with the Kolkata police, of raping and murdering a junior doctor at R G Kar Medical College Hospital on August 9 this year.58 days after the rape-murder, the CBI filed the first chargesheet in the case – a 45-page document that was submitted to the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Court in Sealdah.The CBI said Roy, who was working as a civic volunteer with the local police, allegedly committed the crime on August 9 when the victim had gone to sleep in the seminar room of the hospital during a break.The agency did not mention the charge of gang rape, indicating that Roy alone committed the crime.
Sanjay Roy was seen in CCTV footage entering the seminar room at 4.03 am on August 9. He came out of the room after around half an hour.The chargesheet also mentioned that there were 16 external and nine internal injuries on the body of the doctor.It was also alleged in the chagresheet that Roy tried to mislead investigators during questioning.Roy was interrogated by CBI in custody and underwent a polygraph test inside Presidency central jail, where he is lodged.Sanjay Roy had also claimed that he was being framed.
The CBI has also arrested the ex-principal of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr Sandeep Ghosh, for allegedly trying to mislead the parents of the victim and tampering with evidence. Abhijit Mondol, the then officer in-charge of Talal police station, in connection with alleged tampering of evidence and trying to “hush up” the incident has also been arrested.
