In Canada, nine people have been killed and multiple others injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd at a street festival Saturday evening. The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. near East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street, where the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party was taking place. Vancouver Police said the driver is in custody. The NDP had made a campaign stop at the festival earlier in the day. In a statement posted on X, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said he was "horrified to learn of an incident at Vancouver's Lapu Lapu Day celebrations that injured and killed innocent people."

Vancouver's Mayor Ken Sim said, "I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at Lapu Lapu Day event."Police did not immediately provide a number of victims or a possible motive.British Columbia Premier David Eby said his team was in contact with Vancouver officials and would provide any needed support.The black SUV that supposedly went through the festival is shown with a crushed front hood and had deployed airbags in the driver’s side window, according to video circulating online.
