BSF to get land for border fencing, WB to adopt BNS, Census circular

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday said that the state government has decided to transfer land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for erecting a fence along the Bangladesh border. The decision was taken in the first cabinet meeting held on Monday after the formation of the new government in West Bengal following the elections. The Chief Minister said that within 45 days, land will be handed over to the Border Security Force for fencing along the state’s borders. He alleged that the previous Trinamool Congress government had withheld land to encourage infiltration. CM announced the implementation of the Centre’s flagship Ayushman Bharat health scheme and several other Union government schemes in the state. The state has now been officially included in the Ayushman Bharat scheme, along with access to the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Adhikari confirmed that Central government guidelines are being implemented immediately. The cabinet also approved a proposal for a five-year extension in the age limit of school job applicants, as promised by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the poll campaign. The Chief Minister said the Bengal Cabinet has empowered the Chief Secretary to take steps to initiate central government training for officers under the national and state cadres. The cabinet also decided that IAS, IPS, and state police officers will undergo central training.

Alleging that the previous government did not implement the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in violation of the Constitution, he said the cabinet decided to implement the criminal law in the state. He further said that the previous government ignored the June 2025 Census circular from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the cabinet has approved its immediate implementation.
