In Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman-led Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has secured a two-thirds majority by winning 208 of parliamentary seats while the Jammat-e-Islami and its 11 allies has managed to get 69 seats. Accoding to the Election Commission of Bangladesh, Voter turnout in the 13th parliamentary election and referendum stood at 59.44 percen. After completing the announcement of results on Friday morning, EC Director of Public Relations Ruhul Amin Mollik said that the rate of votes cast was 59.44 percent. Women voters turned out in large numbers, many arriving in groups, reflecting broad participation across age and gender. The BNP,which has been out of office for nearly two decades, expressed confidence that it would secure more than a two-thirds majority, describing the outcome as “an overwhelming public mandate”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly greeted Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tarique Rahman on his “decisive victory” in Bangladesh's parliamentary elections and said he looked forward to working with him to advance common development goals. Modi said Rahman’s victory showed the trust of the people of Bangladesh in his leadership. “India will continue to stand in support of a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our multifaceted relations and advance our common development goals,” Modi said.
