BJP wins Bhandara-Gondia local authorities constituency MLC election

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday registered a decisive victory in the Bhandara Gondia Local Authorities Constituency election for the Maharashtra Legislative Council(MLC), with party candidate Avinash Anandrao Bramhnkar securing 302 first preference votes.

According to agency reports,Congress backed Independent candidate Naresh Manik Ishwarkar finished second with 154 votes, giving the BJP a clear margin in the closely watched constituency.The results were announced for 11 of the 17 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council's Local Authorities Constituency elections. Voting for these seats was held on June 18, recording a high turnout of 99.02 per cent.
The BJP led Mahayuti alliance maintained its strong position in the state, winning a majority of the seats that went to polling. The BJP secured 10 seats, while the Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena won one seat. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi failed to win any seat in the declared results, while one seat went to an Independent candidate.Before the polling process, six candidates from the Mahayuti alliance had already been elected unopposed, taking the alliance's overall tally higher.
The Local Authorities Constituency elections are held through votes from elected representatives of municipal corporations, municipal councils, nagar panchayats, district councils and panchayat samitis.The elections covered several important constituencies across Maharashtra, including Nagpur, Amravati, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalgaon, Sangli, Satara, Nanded, Dharashiv, Beed, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nashik and Solapur.
