Veteran BJP leader Prem Kumar was on Tuesday unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Bihar Assembly, marking a significant moment in the newly constituted House. Pro-tem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav informed members that Kumar was the only candidate whose name was submitted for the post, paving the way for an uncontested election.Following the announcement, the House adopted a voice vote, after which Yadav formally declared Kumar “unanimously elected.” The atmosphere in the Assembly reflected broad consensus and cooperation across party lines, underscoring the respect Kumar commands in Bihar’s political landscape.
Prem Kumar, a senior BJP figure and one of the longest-serving legislators in the state, recently secured a victory from the Gaya Town constituency for a record eighth consecutive term, reaffirming his political stature and strong public support. As per tradition, Kumar was escorted to the Speaker’s Chair by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, symbolizing bipartisan goodwill and institutional decorum. Both leaders congratulated him and expressed confidence that his long legislative experience would contribute to the smooth functioning of the Assembly.
