As predicted, JDU break alliance wth NDA in Bihar Chief minister Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation letter to the Governor in Patna on Tuesday evening, He also submitted a support letter of 160 MLAs to stake claims to form a new government, breaking the alliance with the BJP in the state. Earlier, workers of opposition RJD, which appeared tipped to be a part of the new government, joined their counterparts in the JD(U) in raising the slogan "Nitish Kumar zindabad”. Nitish Kumar met with his MLAs before coming to his decision on dumping the BJP for a second time. JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar has been elected as the leader of Mahagathbandhan or the Grand Alliance.
"Nitish Kumar has betrayed the people of Bihar and the BJP. People will teach him a lesson," Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Jaiswal said at a news conference. “We fought the 2020 polls together under the NDA, the mandate was for JD(U) and the BJP, we won more seats despite that Nitish Kumar was made the CM. Whatever happened today is a betrayal of Bihar's people and the BJP,” Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Jaiswal said.
Till 2017, Tejashwi Yadav was a minister along with his brother in Nitish Kumar's government which had three components: the JDU, Lalu Yadav's party, and the Congress. Nitish Kumar had formed an alliance with them after calling off a decades-long relationship with the BJP. But he accused Tejashwi Yadav and his brother of corruption and used that controversy to end his alliance with 'secular' parties and returned to the BJP.
Meanwhile, LJP(Rambilas Paewan) chief Chirag Paswan on Tuesday slammed Nitish Kumar for insulting the people's mandate for the second time and demanded the imposition of President's Rule in the state followed by fresh elections. He also came out in support of the BJP amid the political turmoil in Bihar and said the saffron party had accepted everything that Kumar wanted as chief minister and even compromised on its own policies. Nitish Kumar has once again insulted the people's mandate. He has lost his credibility... Is it a joke? At one time you go with somebody and the other time with someone else, Chirag Paswan told reporters in Patna. "I request the governor to recommend the imposition of President's Rule in the state. Elections should be held for a fresh mandate," he added.
