Bihar Education Minister Mewalal Choudhary resigns

Bihar's new education minister Mewalal Choudhary has resigned on Thursday within three days of taking charge, following allegations of corruption. Soon after the oath ceremony on Monday, the opposition Rashtriya Janata dal had flagged corruption allegations against the minister dating back from 2017. It was alleged that when he was the vice-chancellor of Bhagalpur agriculture university, there have been irregularities in the appointments to posts of assistant professor and junior scientists. A criminal case was filed against the JD(U) MLA from Tarapur after sanction from then Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind. No chargesheet has been filed against him yet.

The Bihar assembly session is scheduled to start from November 23 and according to politcal observers, its a good decision because the issue of Choudhary was bound to come in the house. Choudhary had met the Chief Minister Nitin Kumsr on Wednesday amid reported corruption charges. Speaking on the development, Mewa Lal said, "An accusation is proven only when a charge sheet is filed or a court gives an order and none of the two is there to prove the allegations against me."
