Basavaraj Bommai will be Karnataka’s new chief minister

Basavaraj Bommai will be new Chief Minister of Karnataka .The oath ceremony will be held on Wednesday. The BJP MLAs on Tuesday evening elected Basavraj as new leader. He was the home minister in the BS Yediyurappa government and was among the top contenders for the chief minister's post. Son of former chief minister S R Bommai, Basavaraj  the new chief minister is also from the politically influential Lingayat community.

Arun Singh, in charge of party affairs in Karnataka, and Central observers held the crucial meeting in Bengaluru. BJP’s parliamentary board had appointed Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and G Kishan Reddy as Central observers for selection of new leader. Basavraj Bommai started his political career with the Janata Dal and worked with senior leaders including HD Devegowda and Ramakrishna Hegde. He left the Janata Dal (United) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in February 2008. The outgoing Chief Minister, BS Yediyurappa, held the post for 1,901 days spread across four different tenures. On as many as nine occasions, chief ministers could not even complete a year in office.
