Bangladesh: Minorities hold protest, Hindu man beaten to death

In Bangladesh. a Hindu trader named Liton Chandra Das was beaten to death on Saturday and Minorities hold protest rally in Dhaka against violence. According to information, the incident occurred on Saturday morning, Liton Chandra Das was beaten to death in Kaliganj area. Das, a hotel and sweet shop owner, died after a small argument escalated into a serious physical altercation, and a group of customers attacked him.  Bangladesh has witnessed various incidents of anti-minority mob violence, following the death of anti-India radical student leader Sharif Osman Hadi.
Various minority communities in Bangladesh gathered in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Saturday, demanding immediate government action to stop rising violence, anarchy and discrimination across the country.The protest rally was organised by the Bangladesh Minority Lawyers Unity Alliance, chaired by its convener, freedom fighter and senior Supreme Court lawyer Dr J.K. Pal, and moderated by alliance member secretary Advocate Suman Kumar Roy.   
Senior lawyers, minority leaders and representatives of several organisations attended the demonstration and expressed solidarity. Speakers urged the Chief Adviser to take urgent steps to restore the rule of law and presented five key demands, including judicial investigations into recent killings, exemplary punishment through speedy trial tribunals, equal representation of minorities in state institutions, deployment of the army to ensure post-election security, and the unconditional release of detainees facing what they termed false cases. Roy warned that continued violence has created fear among minority communities and could force them to consider drastic steps, including election boycotts.

Journalists in Bangladesh also slammed the government for failing to protect media houses and workers from mob violence, saying stalled reforms and bureaucratic inertia have left the press more vulnerable than ever.Top editors and journalists at the Media Convention 2026 called for national unity to keep the country on a democratic path and protect media freedom. Speakers also called for internal accountability and a code of conduct for the media.
