A 24-year-old woman of Bangladesh origin was arrested in Rishikesh for allegedly residing in India using forged documents, police said on Wednesday, highlighting concerns over illegal entry and identity fraud.According to sources,the accused, identified as Rita alias Rina from Dhaka, was apprehended from the Natraj Chowk area during an intensive verification drive conducted under ‘Operation Prahar’. The drive was launched based on confidential intelligence inputs to identify suspicious individuals, officials added.

During preliminary questioning, the woman told investigators that she had come in contact with a man named Ripon through social media, who allegedly lured her to India with the promise of a job nearly a month ago. Police said the accused was facilitated in crossing into India illegally with his assistance.
According to investigators, the woman arranged forged identity documents in West Bengal to conceal her nationality and subsequently obtained a fake Aadhaar card. She later travelled from Delhi to Rishikesh by bus on April 13.A search conducted by the police led to the recovery of a fake Aadhaar card and a Bangladesh identity card from her possession. Officials also seized a photocopy of a Bangladesh citizenship certificate along with a mobile phone.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to forgery, Section 3 of the Passport Act, and Section 14 of the Foreigners and Immigration Act.Police said further investigation is underway to identify and trace individuals involved in facilitating her illegal entry and the creation of forged documents. Authorities have indicated that strict action will be taken against all those found complicit in the case.
