Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called for recommitting the two countries towards further strengthening the long-standing dynamic partnership between Bangladesh and India. Delivering her video address at the event organised by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) in Delhi on the occasion of Maitri Diwas Monday, Prime Minister Hasina said that the golden jubilee of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries is a milestone in the journey of bilateral relation between Bangladesh and India.
Speaking about the relationship between the two countries she said it is not confined to the treaties, MoUs, bilateral agreements that provide the formal structure to the working relations between Bangladesh and India. She said today this relationship has matured taking dynamic, comprehensive and strategic shape and is based on sovereignty, equality, trust and mutual respect.Prime Minister Hasina said that the bonds of friendship have further strengthened, diversified and expanded in recent years due to regular high level political interactions and exchanges. Quoting a 1972 speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Hasina said that the bonds of friendship will remain firm and long-lasting.
