Newsinc24 Team The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Tarique Rahman, crossed the majority mark in Bangladesh’s 13th national parliamentary election on Friday. As per late night trend BNP was leading in 175+ seats while Jamaat in just 30 seats. Preliminary results also indicated that Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh was set to emerge as the main opposition force, leading in 43 seats, according to Dhaka Tribune.
Bangladesh’s referendum also indicate strong public support for the July Charter, a reform document born out of the 2024 uprising that proposes major constitutional changes.According to The Daily Star, about 72.9 per cent of counted votes were in favour of adopting the charter, while 27.1 per cent were opposed. However, the Bangladesh Election Commission has yet to release official results.
At least 72 people were injured in 14 separate incidents during voting across Bangladesh, local newspaper The Daily Star is reporting. Law enforcers detained at least nine individuals, with incidents reported near or at polling stations, it added.The greatest number of injuries, 31, were sustained in Noakhali’s Hatiya during a clash between supporters of the BNP and the National Citizen Party, according to the report.
