Australian PM Albanese marries Jodie Haydon

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Saturday married his longtime partner Jodie Haydon, making him the first sitting leader in the country to get married while in office. Albanese married 46-year-old Haydon at a private ceremony in the garden of his official residence, The Lodge, in Canberra. "We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends," Albanese said in a statement. "Married", the prime minister captioned in another post on social media that had a video of himself in a bow-tie holding the hand of his smiling bride.

The private wedding, funded by the couple, followed the final sitting day of the Australian parliament for 2025 and came six months after Albanese’s re-election.The ceremony took place more than a year after Albanese proposed on Valentine’s Day 2024.A financial services worker, Haydon has been publicly photographed with Albanese at many events over the years. She was with him during his 2022 election campaign. Haydon also joined him in May this year when his Labor party won with a strong majority. The couple will spend their honeymoon in Australia and all costs are being paid privately by Albanese and Haydon, his office said.

The Australian PM was earlier married to former NSW Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt; the couple separated in 2019 after nearly 20 years of marriage.
