Kabak Yano, a Mountaineer from Arunachal Pradesh has successfully summitted Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak of Africa on Monday, August 4, 2025. Yano is on a seven-summit mountaineering expedition, a mission to scale the highest peaks on all seven continents. Towering at 5,895 meters above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is the tallest peak on the African continent. It is also the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik, who had flagged off Ms. Yano’s expedition on July 28 last month, has expressed immense pride in her achievement. He said that Ms. Yano, an accomplished Everest climber, has once again demonstrated the indomitable spirit, courage, and perseverance that define the people of Arunachal Pradesh. This accomplishment adds to Yano’s growing record in mountaineering. She had earlier scaled Mount Everest on May 21, 2024, becoming the fifth woman from Arunachal Pradesh and the first woman from the Nyishi community to do so. Born on September 5, 1999, Yano’s journey has been marked by challenges, including the loss of her father, a casual labourer in the Public Works Department, in 2022. Following this, she took on family responsibilities and worked various jobs to support her education and household.Currently, Yano is pursuing a Post Graduate Diploma in Fitness Management at Rashtriya Raksha University, Pasighat. The university plans to support her future endeavors through training, education, and potential teaching roles, encouraging other students to pursue their ambitions.
