Arunachal floods ravage NEEPCO colony in Keyi Panyor, 4 missing

In Arunachal Pradesh, heavy rainfall and flash floods have caused widespread damage at NEEPCO Colony in Posa, Yazali, under the Keyi Panyor district. As per the reports, four people are missing. Authorities have not yet confirmed any casualties as they are assessing the extent of the damage. Further details are awaited. Head of Project, NEEPCO has informed that 17 persons have sustained injuries, including three in critical condition. The critically injured patients have been evacuated to Ziro by ambulance for treatment. Due to a road blockage at Pitapool, they were manually carried across the affected stretch before being transported further for medical care.
The flooding also washed away a key bridge and triggered multiple landslides, severely disrupting connectivity across the district. Sections of National Highway-13 were blocked by mudslides and debris, leaving vehicles stranded and isolating several areas. Large quantities of mud and boulders were reported to have buried roads, damaged structures, and affected parked vehicles. The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. confirmed that operations at the Panyor Lower Hydroelectric Project were suspended following the flood emergency. The corporation reportedly shut down the hydroelectric station after parts of the project infrastructure and staff colony were affected by the flash floods. One spillway gate was opened to release excess water and manage rising water levels.

As per the inputs from Keyi Panyor Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, the affected area remains inaccessible from both the Yazali and Hoj-Potin sides due to landslides. The Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Sagalee Kipa Raja on Wednesday issued a travel advisory following heavy landslides and flash floods triggered by incessant rainfall in Papum Pare district. According to the advisory, the NH-13 road between Sagalee and Hoj Junction Point and the NH-713A road between Potin and Dakte-Hoj Bridge Point have been completely blocked at multiple locations due to landslides and flash floods that occurred overnight.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has appealed to the people in flood-affected areas of Arunachal Pradesh to remain cautious. In a social media post, Rijiju said that the safety of people is important for the government. He also urged the people to stay updated through official channels and follow all safety advisories. Chief Minister Pema Khandu has extended his condolences to all those affected and the families anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones. In a social media post, Khandu said that he is closely monitoring the situation and remains in constant touch with the authorities. He reaffirmed that the Government stands firmly with the affected families, and no effort will be spared in rescue, relief, and medical assistance.
