Palestinian leaders, along with Arab countries leaders from countries such as Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, have rejected US President Donald Trump’s recent proposal to have the United States “take over” the Gaza Strip, calling it a violation of Palestinian rights and international law. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas emphasized that legitimate Palestinian rights are non-negotiable and that the proposal will constitute a serious violation of international law. It comes two weeks after the start of a fragile ceasefire in Gaza, during which Hamas has released some Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Earlier, Trump proposed to have the United States “take over” the Gaza Strip and resettle its Palestinian residents.
Contrary to Trump's assertions, Arab states have firmly rejected the plan. Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates denounced any "infringement of the inalienable rights" of Palestinians. Palestinian Authority president Mahmud Abbas went to Jordan on Wednesday to consult King Abdullah II, signalling deep concern in Amman and Ramallah.Mahmoud Abbas called for the United Nations to "protect the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights," saying that what Trump wanted to do would be "a serious violation of international law."
Britain, China, Germany, Ireland, Russia and Spain all said they continue to support a two-state solution — creation of an independent Palestinian state that would include Gaza and the Israeli-occupied West Bank existing next to Israel. The two-state proposal, aimed at ending decades of Middle East conflict and wars, has long been the bedrock of U.S. policy in the region even though Netanyahu’s government opposes it."Australia's position is the same as it was as it was last year, as it was 10 years ago," Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in support of a two-state solution.
Hamas said Trump's Gaza proposal was a "recipe for creating chaos and tension in the region. Instead of holding the Zionist occupation accountable for the crime of genocide and displacement, it is being rewarded, not punished.”
