Consumer electronics giant Apple Inc. on Thursday opened its sixth retail store in India, launching a new outlet at Sky City Mall in Mumbai’s suburbs amid rising demand for iPhones and other premium devices in the country.The Cupertino, US-based technology major inaugurated its second store in the financial capital, drawing large crowds as customers gathered to witness the opening. The launch marks another milestone in Apple’s expanding brick-and-mortar presence in India, one of its fastest-growing markets globally.
With the latest addition, Apple now operates six stores nationwide. The National Capital Region has two outlets, while Mumbai now has two stores. There is one store each in Bengaluru and Pune. The company had opened its first India retail store in April 2023 after navigating regulatory requirements related to foreign direct investment (FDI) in single-brand retail.The new store, located at Sky City Mall, will employ more than 70 team members and operate entirely on renewable energy for its power requirements, reflecting Apple’s broader sustainability goals. The outlet will showcase the company’s full lineup of products and services, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, and subscription offerings.
Beyond retail, the store is designed to function as a hub for community engagement and creative expression, hosting sessions and workshops aimed at customers, developers, and aspiring creators.“We’re so inspired by the creativity and enthusiasm of communities across India,” said Deirdre O’Brien, Senior Vice President of Retail and People at Apple, underscoring the company’s long-term commitment to deepening its presence in the country.Apple’s retail expansion comes at a time when India is witnessing rapid premiumisation in the smartphone segment, with growing adoption of high-end devices across urban centres. The company has also been strengthening its manufacturing footprint in India, positioning the country as a key market and production base in its global strategy.
