Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur felicitated four medalists – Sumit Antil, Devendra Jhanjhariya, Yogesh Kathuniya and Sharad Kumar. These Paralmpians won medals in the Tokyo Paralympics on Friday.
In an event organized in New Delhi, Thakur lauded the performance of these paralympicans saying that they have made country proud by their remarkable performance. He said, the Government has provided every possible support. He expressed confidence that Target Olympic Podium Scheme, TOPS will be continued and it will be strengthened in the future. The Minister also expressed hope that the javelin will become as popular as the cricket bat in India. Thakur was referring to the four javelin throw medals won by Indians in the Paralympic Games soon after Neeraj Chopra's historic gold medal in the Olympics.
Jhajharia and Sharad Kumar spoke of the support provided by the Government in their Paralympic Games campaign. "In the last four years, the Government has supported us in a great way. PM Modi Ji's interaction with us also boosted our morale and we felt motivated this time," Jhajharia said. The Government is working tirelessly to support us and all our sports-centric and reasonable requests are being approved quickly, Sharad said.
