Anti-immigration protests in London lead to clashes, Cops assaulted

The UK saw violent clashes on Saturday as 1,10,000 to 1,50,000 people gathered in central London for a rally led by far-right activist Tommy Robinson. Police officers were “attacked with projectiles” and “assaulted” during far-right anti-immigration protests in London. Counter-protesters also flocked to the British capital.26 officers were injured in the clashes and 25 people were arrested. Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist condemned the “wholly unacceptable” attacks in a statement.
Demonstrators brandishing flags of the United Kingdom and England – the Union Flag and the Cross of St. George respectively – marched to Whitehall, the London district where the prime minister and government departments reside. The event, known as the "Unite the Kingdom" march, was reported by police to have drawn approximately 110,000 participants. Robinson’s rally took place alongside a "Stand Up to Racism" counter-protest, which attracted around 5,000 people. The Metropolitan Police had to intervene multiple times throughout the day to prevent clashes, including stopping "Unite the Kingdom" demonstrators from entering “sterile areas” set up between the two protests, breaching police cordons, or approaching opposing groups.“The silent majority will be silent no longer,” Robinson told the crowd. “Today is the spark of a cultural revolution.”

Elon Musk also joined via video-link, telling the crowd: “Whether you choose violence or not, violence is coming to you. You either fight back or you die.” Placards included “stop the boats” slogans and photos of Conservative American activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed earlier this week. Slogans critical of Prime Minister Keir Starmer were chanted and placards with messages such as "send them home" were visible. Some attendees even brought children to the event.
At the anti-racism march, Labour MP Diane Abbott said Robinson and his allies were spreading “nonsense” and “dangerous” lies. “We need to be in solidarity with asylum seekers, and we need to show that we are united,” she told Sky News. Police said conditions were imposed on both rallies to end by evening, with officers drafted from outside London.
