Amit Shah lashes out at Cong, DMK & Kejariwal for nepotisn, corruption

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday took a nepotism jibe at the ruling DMK-Congress alliance in Tamil Nadu, saying Sonia Gandhi wants to make her son, Rahul Gandhi, the prime minister, while MK Stalin wants to make his son, Udhayanidhi, a chief minister. But neither Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would become the prime minister, nor Udhayanidhi would become the chief minister, he said this while addressing party supporters in Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. Shah also attacked CM Stalin for his opposition against the recent bill to remove corrupt ministers from power, saying that the DMK leader has no right to dismiss the proposed law as he is a CM who did "black deed."

Earlier, in Kerala, Shah cited the example of Arvind Kejriwal, the former Delhi Chief Minister who ran the government from Tihar jail, to drive home the point of bringing in the bills to sack jailed ministers and that it had not happened in the 75 years since the nation won freedom. "Do the people of the country want any Chief Minister to stay in jail and run the government? What kind of discussion is this? I don't understand. This is a question of morality. Now they are asking why it was not included in the Constitution earlier. When the Constitution was drafted, it was not anticipated that people who had been to jail would continue to hold elected office," he said, speaking at Manorama News Conclave in Kochi. Shah said, if Mr Kejriwal had resigned following his arrest, this new bill would not have been introduced.

In Bihar rally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also championed the new bill. "We have seen a regrettable situation in which people in seats of power have been running governments from jail, signing files from behind bars, tearing to shreds constitutional propriety," said PM Modi, hinting at Arvind Kejriwal's case.
