Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan warned that Afghanistan is heading for chaos if no action is taken immediately. In his opening remarks at an extraordinary meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Sunday, he also sounded alarm bells regarding a possible refugee crisis and rise in Islamic State violence in case the international community doesn’t provide support to Afghan citizens. The special two-day meeting of OIC members in Pakistan seek to respond to the growing crises. "I speak to the United States specifically that they must delink the Afghanistan government from the 40 million Afghan citizens," he said. Khan said that the last extraordinary session of the OIC was called to discuss Afghanistan 41 years ago. Khan opined that if the world doesn't act now, Afghanistan will be the biggest man-made crisis. "If foreign aid dries up, foreign reserves are frozen, the banking system freezes, any country would collapse, let alone Afghanistan." He said that the US has set conditions of human rights, women rights and inclusive government before foreign aid flows to Afghanistan.
"Every society's idea of human rights and women's rights are different. When we are talking about human and women rights, we have to be sensitive of cultures," he said and cautioned the world that the IS is capable of international terrorism and only a stable Afghan government can deal with it. "Any government unable to pay salaries to its civil servants, hospital, doctors, nurses, it will collapse."
The Taliban's acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi assured the members that the new setup in Kabul has restored peace and security, claiming that they have also addressed the demands of a more inclusive government. He stressed that countries must acknowledge that the “political isolation of Afghanistan is not beneficial for anyone.” “Therefore it is imperative that all support the prevailing stability and back it both politically and economically," he said.
