Bollywood Actress Sayani Gupta has been named as the 2026 Person of the Year by the Harvard South Asian Association in recognition of her outstanding contribution to film, storytelling, and representation. She is scheduled to be formally felicitated at Harvard University later this month. Alongside this recognition, Gupta is set to expand her creative repertoire with her debut as a writer-director. Her short film "Aasmani" will have its world premiere at the WorldFest Houston on April 25, followed by a screening at the Indie Meme Film Festival on April 26, according to Variety India."As Harvard's premier organisation celebrating South Asian culture, creativity and leadership, we annually recognise an individual whose work has meaningfully shaped how South Asian identity is expressed and understood in public life. Sayani's performances have consistently challenged conventions and brought depth, boldness, and authenticity to contemporary narratives, making her a compelling voice in shaping more inclusive storytelling," wrote Harvard University South Asian Association.
She has a long-standing international presence in cinema. An alumna of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII, Pune), Sayani has built a compelling career across film, theatre and streaming, carving out a unique space for herself through brilliant performances, a dynamic body of work, and consistent quiet courage. The Harvard South Asian Association annually presents the Person of the Year award to individuals who have significantly shaped South Asian identity and representation in public life.
