The only song in history where every stanza is like a new song !!
*Guide*
Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman, Kishore Sahu...
Lata, SD Burman, Shailendra.
*Some trivia:*
On the advice of Nobel Laureate Pearl S. Buck, Dev Anand was inspired to make the film 'Guide' both in Hindi and English. When Buck met Dev saheb at the Berlin Film Festival in 1962, she told about famous English Novelist and Sahitya Academy Awardee R K Narayan's novel 'The Guide.' That is the background of making of this film.
Released in 1965 the Hindi Guide was superhit and was critically acclaimed. Where as the English version flopped.
Dev saheb felt that Raj Khosla would be an apt choice to direct the Hindi version. But, Waheeda was reluctant to work with him.
So, the youngest Anand brother, Vijay stepped in.
The combination of the Anand brothers with Kishore Sahu, Shailendra, Fali Mistry and SD saheb created history.
Waheeda Rehman replaced Vaijayantimala because the director Vijay Anand thought Vaijayantimala would look too ‘chubby’ before a slim and trim hero Dev; hence Waheeda had to enter !!
Vijay Anand gave ample scope in the dance numbers to Waheeda to perform her best.
Hasrat fought with Vijay Anand as the director didn’t like the initial line of Rafi's famous song ‘din dhal jaye hai raat na jaye.‘
Hasrat walked out and Shailendra walked in !!
But Shailendra retained the contentious line in the song !!
Some sort of sweet revenge of the lyric writers !!
Vijay Anand suggested SD Burman to make the tune of this song as if every stanza would be a new song.
Accordingly every stanza appears to be new as per the director's wish. And he shot the song in that unusual manner.
