Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said the country has witnessed a massive transformation in internal security during the last 10 years. There has been a record 70% decrease in violence in the three major violence-prone hotspots of the country including Jammu and Kashmir, North East and Naxal affected region. The death rate has also decreased by 72% in these regions the Minister added. The Minister was addressing an event after inaugurating the new building of Ahmedabad City police headquarters on Thursday in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, MoS Home Harsh Sanghavi, DGP Vikas Sahay, Ahmedabad police commissioner Gyanendra Singh Malik.
The Minister added that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi the government is focusing on proactive policing and scientific approach. The government has revised the age-old criminal laws to encourage the use of technology in criminal justice. The Minister launched the people-centric ‘Tera tujhko Arpan portal’ of Ahmedabad police for cyber crimes.Speaking about the new office, Shah said that it is not merely a new building. He said it is built at a cost of Rs140 crore and has state-of-the-art technology, a gym, parking facilities, CCTVs, fire safety and a police museum as well as a Shaheed Smarak (martyrs’ memorial).
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said that the people are safe in Gujarat, the state is more secure and foreign investments are flowing in due to the security status in Gujarat. He said that the police personnel, even during disasters, work day and night to ensure the security of people. He dubbed the inauguration of the new CP office as the “duty of the government towards the police force”, saying that it is necessary to make sure the police stay two steps ahead of the times.
