A tragic incident at a private seafood processing unit in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvallur district claimed the lives of seven women after a major ammonia gas leak on Sunday, police said.According to agency reports,the incident occurred at a seafood factory in Manjangaranai near Periyapalayam, where several workers were affected after the toxic gas leak. Emergency teams rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations.
Thiruvallur District Collector S Kavitha stated a total of 67 workers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Of them, 46 workers are undergoing treatment at Vels Hospital, while 21 have been admitted to Venkateshwara Hospital.Nine critically ill patients have been shifted through ambulances to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai for advanced medical care, the district administration said.

Authorities are monitoring the condition of the injured workers, while officials are investigating the cause of the ammonia leak at the facility.
