At least seven people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus rolled down a hill in Udhampur district on Monday, according to inforation.The bus was travelling from a remote village to Udhampur when the accident occurred around 10 am near Kagort village in the Ramnagar area. Officials said the vehicle lost control while negotiating a blind curve on a hilly stretch and plunged into a deep gorge.A major rescue operation was immediately launched, with local authorities and emergency teams rushing to the spot. Several injured passengers were pulled out from the wreckage and shifted to nearby hospitals, where many are reported to be in critical condition,,stated officials.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh said he had spoken to Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa soon after learning about the incident.“Just now spoke to DC Udhampur after learning about a tragic road accident at village Kanote, involving a public transport bus on its way from Ramnagar to Udhampur. The rescue operation has been immediately undertaken. Heavy casualties are expected. All possible assistance is being provided,” Singh said in a post on X.

He added that efforts are underway to ensure timely medical assistance for the injured. “Arrangements are being made to airlift the seriously injured. I am in constant touch with the local administration as well as our local workers team led by Rajinder Sharma,” the minister said.Authorities are continuing rescue efforts amid challenging terrain, while further details on the cause of the accident are awaited.
