At least seven people were killed in a late-night road accident in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district after a truck rammed into a group of passengers on the Lakhtar–Viramgam highway near Bhaskarpara, officials said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. In a message shared by the Prime Minister’s Office, he conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

According to SP Vedika Bihani, the accident occurred between 1:00 am and 1:30 am when a religious group travelling from Rajkot to Bahucharaji met with the mishap. The group had halted during the night and resumed their journey when the truck struck them.Six members of the group died on the spot, while another victim—a truck driver who was present between halted vehicles at the scene—also lost his life, taking the total death toll to seven.Three to four people sustained injuries in the incident and were rushed to nearby hospitals in private vehicles. Authorities said the post-mortem of the deceased is currently underway.

According to information, the driver of the truck involved in the accident fled the scene, and police teams have launched a search operation to trace and apprehend him.Further investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is ongoing, with officials examining possible causes behind the fatal collision.
