20 kiilled in PoK crackdown by Pakistan Forces

At least 20 people were killed and dozens critically injured during the Long March organised by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), amid an escalating crackdown by Pakistani authorities on protesters in the region. The death toll is expected to rise, with several of those injured reported to be in critical condition.  According to information received so far, the identities of 19 deceased individuals have been confirmed, while one person did not have identification documents and sustained a bullet wound to the head; his body is present at the Palandri Hospital.

The violence erupted near the city of Rawalakot, where thousands of supporters and activists of the JAAC attempted to march towards Muzaffarabad, the occupied region's capital, after weeks of protests and demonstrations. While the JAAC claimed in a statement reported by BBC Urdu that 14 of its activists were killed in police firing, authorities in POK disputed the toll, claiming they had not received any evidence to verify the casualties.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday said that the "elections for the so-called Assembly in the illegally occupied region are a cosmetic exercise". "We have seen reports regarding the so-called legislative assembly elections being conducted in the Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir... The current cosmetic electoral exercise is nothing but an attempt by Pakistan to camouflage its illegal occupation and hide its grave human rights violations in the region," MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Tuesday.
The United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) on Tuesday drew the international community’s attention to the mounting humanitarian abuses unfolding presently in PoK.Citing reports, the group alleged that Pakistani security forces on Monday evening launched a violent crackdown against peaceful protesters in Rawalakot, killing and injuring dozens through the use of live ammunition, heavy shelling, tear gas, and other forms of force against civilians.
