In USA, one person is dead and 23 trapped persons were rescued from 1,000 feet underground after being stuck due to an equipment failure in a Colorado gold mine on Thursday night. The individuals were part of a tour group and became stuck near the bottom of the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine in Cripple Creek, Teller County, Colorado. Teller County Sheriff Jason Mikesell said that one person has died in the incident, and 23 others have been rescued, including two children.
Elevator and mine safety experts are on site to inspect the elevator’s safety before it is used to bring those trapped up to the ground. Multiple agencies are responding to the incident with heavy equipment. The mine is a popular tourist destination near Cripple Creek, Colorado. They haven't had an incident like this since 1986, Mikesell said.
The Mollie Kathleen gold mine, about a two-hour drive south of Denver, provides visitors with a one-hour tour stretching 1,000 feet beneath the surface. The mine was founded in the 1800s and closed in the 1960s, when its owners decided tour revenues would be used to maintain the mine in case it could one day be used for gold production again.Mikesell said the mine had not experienced an incident since 1986.
