In Uttar Pradesh, six passengers were run over by an incoming train on Wednesday while they were alighting from the wrong side at Chunar Railway Station, a railway official said. The passengers got off the Chopan Express on the track and were hit by the approaching Kalka Mail. UP Minister Sanjeev Kumar Gaud says, "This is an unfortunate incident. We came to know that 6 people have died in Chunar railway station, 5 of them belonged to Mirzapur district and 1 belonged to Sonbhadra. They were coming for Ganga bathing on a train and met with this accident.

District Magistrate Pawan Kumar Gangwar said that the Gomoh-Prayagraj Barwadih passenger train carrying pilgrims for Kartik Purnima holy bath arrived at Platform Number 4 around 9:15 am from Sonbhadra. Instead of alighting on Platform Number 4, they stepped down on the opposite side and attempted to cross the tracks to reach Platform Number 3, where they were hit by the passing Kalka Mail train.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister and local MP Anupriya Patel expressed condolences over the incident and directed district officials to reach the spot immediately, expedite relief work, and ensure proper treatment for the injured
