Speaking like BJP chief, Mamata Banerjee hits back at PM Modi

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sharp criticism of her government, challenging the BJP to call early elections in the state.Hitting back, Chief Minister Banerjee called the Prime Minister's remarks shocking and accused him and the BJP of politicising Operation Sindoor at a time when all-party delegations are sharing India's point of view with the world. Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee is part of one such delegation.Claiming that her government is a humane one and the policies of the BJP are divisive, Ms Banerjee alleged that the ruling party at the Centre fuels riots. "The Malda and Murshidabad riots occurred because of the BJP," the Trinamool Congress chief claimed.Responding to the PM’s “Operation Bengal” comment, Mamata said the Union government was playing “political Holi” while opposition leaders were trying to safeguard national interests globally.

Her remarks came hours after Prime Minister Modi accused the TMC government of "cruelty and indifference" following recent violence in Murshidabad and Malda. The PM also alleged that the state government was blocking central welfare schemes and playing politics instead of focusing on development.
