Rail traffic resumed on Tuesday after more than 24 hours of disruption caused by a segmental launching gantry slipping at the Mumbai- Ahmedabad bullet train project site near Ahmedabad. The mishap, which occurred around 11 PM on Sunday at the National High- Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) construction site in the Geratpur-Vatva section, affected an adjacent railway line and damaged overhead electric equipment, leading to the suspension of train services.
Western Railway officials confirmed that the first train passed through the affected track at 5:36 AM on Tuesday after the gantry was successfully removed. The restoration work, which involved extensive repairs to the damaged track and overhead equipment, was completed by 4:45 AM on Tuesday. The NHSRCL reported that the gantry removal operation concluded at 11:58 PM on Monday, ensuring the safe resumption of rail traffic.
While no casualties were reported, according to information,the incident led to the complete cancellation of 38 trains and partial cancellation of seven others, including major services such as the Gandhinagar-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express and Ahmedabad-Mumbai Shatabdi Express. The disruption caused significant inconvenience to passengers, who were provided with tea, snacks, and drinking water at stations through the support of local organizations. A dedicated helpline was also set up to assist travelers.
Senior officials, including the General Manager of Western Railway, visited the site to oversee restoration efforts. NHSRCL MD Vivek Gupta confirmed that halted trains have reached Ahmedabad, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
