On Thursday 14,317 new cases were added to Maharashtra’s to its active case tally.Most of the cases are from Latur, Nanded, Pune, Nagpur, Nasic, Jalagaon and of course Mumbai City. Maharashtra government has announced the imposition of a seven days lockdown in Nagpur district in the Vidarbha region from March 15. Nagpur' s Guardian Minister Nitin Raut said a complete lockdown would remain in city from March 15 to March 21. Essential services will remain operational but private offices would remain closed. Mr Raut said the government office would work at 25% capacity. Liquor would be sold only online. A three day janata curfew has already begun in Jalgaon yesterday. In Jalna in the Marathwada region, bars and permit rooms have been shut down by district authorities over the next week in view of increasing cases.
The State’s recovery rate is now down to 93.2 while the fatality rate remained comparatively lower taking the toll to 52,610. According to an official source , the fatality rate in Maharashtra has come down to 2.34%. More than half (57%) of the 128,599 new Covid infections reported across the country in the past week have been in Maharashtra. According to reports 44 cases have emerged from a single hostel in MIDC area near the state's Latur city have tested positive against coronavirus, a health department official said on Thursday. Several coronavirus restrictions will come into force in Nanded district of Maharashtra from Friday (March 12), Collector Vipin Itankar issued an order to this effect on Thursday. As per the order, shops will be operational from 7 am to 7 pm only. No weekly markets will be allowed in the district between March 12 and 21 and coaching classes shall remain closed during this period,
Meanwhile other activities continue in the state and in Mumbai. Assistant Police Inspector has been transferred from Mumbai Crime Branch. It was announced by Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in the State Council. Home Minister said that Sachin Vaze would be removed from his current posting in the Crime Branch till the investigation is completed. He said he was taking this decision in view of the demand raised by the opposition. The Home Minister also said that appropriate action against Sachin Vaze would be taken if he was found involved in Hiren’s death.Hiren’s body was found in Kalwa Creek last week. He was linked to the Scorpio which with explosives was found outside the house of Mukesh Ambani. Speaking to reporters after the budget session of the legislature, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the government was serious about the investigation in this case.
