External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar visited Nelson Island in Trinidad and Tobago with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Saturday. Nelson Island is the place where the Indian indentured labourers, Girmitiyas, first arrived in Trinidad and Tobago. Dr Jaishankar joined Dr Kamla Persad-Bissessar for a Quick Impact Project on Nelson Island. In a social media post, the External Affairs Minister said the project, supported by Indian assistance, will preserve and showcase the shared heritage of an enduring journey.

Dr Jaishankar also handed over an agro-processing facility, built with India’s assistance in South Trinidad, in the presence of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
