Gujarat HC expresses concerns over Rajkot Tragedy, CP transferred

Gujarat High Court on Monday conducted the hearing regarding the Rajkot Fire tragedy. The bench comprising Justices Biren Vaishnav and Devan Desai expressed deep concerns over the incident. The court was furious when told two gaming zones had been operating - for over 24 months each - without the required permits, including fire safety certificates, and said it could no longer "trust" the state government. The court also ripped into the state government.Advocate Manisha Luv Kumar Shah, appearing for the state government, also acknowledged that two other gaming zones - in Ahmedabad - did not have permission to operate, and said a special team had been formed to investigate all such issues and file a report within 72 hours. This includes mini-gaming zones inside malls, the court was told, for a total of 34 in the city, of which three do not have a no-objection certificate - a mandatory requirement - from the fire department.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat government informed the court that a special investigation team, headed by the Additional Director General of CID-Crime, was set up to probe the incident. The government said, the interim report from the SIT is expected to be ready within the next three days.In a related development, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi visited the Forensic Science Laboratory in Gandhinagar and reviewed the operations of FSL in preparing the DNA report of the deceased of the fire tragedy in Rajkot. Sanghavi said the state government is sensitive about the tragic incident.
Earlier in the day, the Gujarat government suspended seven officials including two police officers, in connection with the Rajkot-fire tragedy. The State government also transferred Rajkot Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava, replaced by IPS officer Brijesh Kumar Jha.
