Union Home Minister, Amit Shah handed over citizenship certificates to 188 Hindu refugees in Gujarat's Ahmedabad on Sunday. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was also present on the occasion.

Addressing the function Shah said Citizenship Amendment Act does not take away the citizenship rights of any religion rather the act offers respect and justice to the Indian refugees along with the citizenship. Shah criticised previous Congress government for neglecting the Hindu and other minority expatriates for vote bank and appeasement politics. He alleged that people seeking refuge in India were not given justice from 1947 to 2014. Amit Shah alleged that past government allowed intruders into the country and illegally granted them citizenship while denying it to those who followed the law and applied for the same by saying there was no legal provision for it.He reiterated Modi government’s commitment for implementation of CAA across the country.

Earlier in the day, the minister inaugurated various developmental works of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation worth over Rs 1000 crore in Ahmedabad.
