“We Are Sevaks, Servants of Humanity”: PM Modi marks 25 years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked 25 years of continuous service as the head of government, beginning with his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001 and followed by three terms as Prime Minister since 2014. The milestone was marked at the ‘Seva Jyoti’ programme at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, Modi attributed his political journey to the continued trust and support of the people and expressed gratitude to citizens as well as his colleagues in the BJP and NDA. The Union Cabinet had also passed a resolution on October 6 congratulating him on completing 25 years of continuous leadership as head of government. “This is the result of the continuous blessings of the people-Janardan,” Modi said, adding that he bowed his head in gratitude to the people of the country and to those who respect democracy.

Recalling October 7, 2001, when he first took oath as Gujarat Chief Minister, Modi said he had not imagined at the time that he would complete 25 years as head of government.“I express my gratitude to all of you and to all my fellow countrymen,” the Prime Minister said, reflecting on the journey that began in Gujarat. He said public trust and the efforts of party workers had remained his biggest source of strength throughout his political career.“Wherever I am today, whatever position I hold, the greatest contribution belongs to the people,” Modi said, while thanking millions of Indians for their trust and support.
The ‘Seva Jyoti’ programme brought together BJP workers, leaders and other dignitaries to mark the milestone in Modi’s political journey. His tenure as head of government has included three consecutive terms as Gujarat Chief Minister and three successive terms as Prime Minister of India. The milestone comes after Modi became India’s longest continuously serving democratically elected Prime Minister in June 2026, surpassing Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of 4,398 consecutive days as elected Prime Minister.
