In Odisha, the state Vigilance Department has recovered more that Rs One crore from a flat of Baikuntha Nath Sarangi, who is the Chief Engineer in Odisha Rural Works Division. The total amount recovered is about Rs 2.1 crore during simultaneous raids at seven locations in Angul, Bhubaneswar and Puri.Sarangi tried to dispose of bundles of cash by throwing them out of the window of his flat as vigilance officers arrived. The bundles were later recovered in presence of witnesses. As per information Rs 1.1 crore were found at Sarangi's residence at Angul and another Rs 1 crore from the Bhubaneswar flat.

The search was carried out following allegations that Sarangi possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The searches were carried out by a team of 26 police officers.Simultaneous raids are being conducted as search warrants were issued by Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul. The vigilance team located a two-storeyed residential house at Karadagadia, Angul, The Chief Engineer was under the scanner for a long time.
