The Kerala police SIT on Saturday arrested IUML MLA MC Kamaruddin for his alleged involvement in a jewellery investment cheating case. He is a sitting MLA from the Manjeshwara constituency in the Kasargod district of Kerala. The case pertains to the allegations that Kamaruddin had influenced people to invest in his jewellery business in Kasargod. Hundreds of people had invested in Fashion Gold jewellery in Kasargod.
According to the police, over 115 complaints were received against Kamaruddin. Most of the complainants alleged that they were influenced by MLA and they invested in business since they trusted the lawmaker. However, after the business collapsed, Kamaruddin allegedly refused to take responsibility for investments and the investors were left stranded. The MLA, however, while being taken to the hospital for medical examination, following the arrest, told the media that the arrest was a politically motivated one.
