In Karnataka, the media focus is now shifted from Covid -19 to Drug abuse mainly in Sandalwood filmdom. Having got bored for last six months on corona spread and lock down, the audience have got a new item to rejoice from the filmy entertainment business. It all started as a usual raid on a young woman Anika, a Keralite drug pedlar two weeks back in Bengaluru. Every one thought that it as a regular police news and fades without notice like so many seizures nationwide. It's strange that police kept quiet all these years and all of a sudden opened their eyes on drug mafia.
Indrajit Factor
It was all quiet till journalist cum film producer Indrajit Lankesh made a statement accusing Karnataka film industry is main partner in drug abuse. He alleged that the third generation artists are engaged in drug consumption. The police then fell behind him and issued notice to appear before them for investigation. They interrogated him twice and later arrested heroine Ragini Dwivedi. Now the entire sandalwood film industry is gasping for breath as there would be more arrests from among them.
Sandalwood afraid of menace
It is well known that the drug abuse is a national epidemic from country side villages to capital cities. It is evident that our government didn't bother over this issue all through because it's VIP's involved in this business. It may be film stars, politicians, businessmen and many more. It is deep rooted in the society as a social evil. If you get into the issue it gets more murkier. The main customer for drugs seems to be film industry where there is no control to check it's usage. Hence the sandalwood is afraid of going into its details as it may lead it into disastrous situation. Now the police are trying out to arrest one more heroine Sanjana Galrani and her associates. It is believed that more than 15 film personalities are drug addicted. There seems to be link between this scandal and former Bollywood actor Sushant death case as one drug pedlar name is figuring in both the lists.
Politicians behind the mafia
Aditya Alwa, a son of a former ninister, is absconding. This has lead to the rumour that there is a political patronage for this mafia. The state Home minister has assured that no-one wil be spared however influential they are. It is believed that many youths from political families are involved in the abuse. An African national Loum Pepper Samba was reportedly supplying drugs to celebrities. He has also been arrested. Now opposition Congress party is alleging that Ragini Dwivedi is BJP'S star campaigner. But the ruling BJP has dismissed this allegation and clarified that she has campaigned in favour of the party on her own. It says that there is no connection between the party and the actor. A special team of lady police officers lead by Inspector Anjumala is interrogating Ragini.
Viren Khanna of Delhi arrested
Karnataka police have arrested a drug pedlar Viren Khanna of New Delhi on the charges of arranging late night drug parties. He stays in a palatial bungalow situated in elite Connaught Place in Delhi. These parties were secretly arranged in five star hotels, farm houses, pubs and clubs. Normally celebrity artists, children of politicians and businessmen used to be invited as guests. Infact Khanna had organised one such party in Bengaluru last Friday night but cancelled as he was arrested. Drug king pin Viren Khanna's father is a professor in Delhi School of Economics. Over a dozen accused are arrested and the investigation is on. This is not just pertains to Bengaluru but is part of international drug racket.
