The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a man from Indore for allegedly creating a web-based app ‘Sulli Deals’ from Indore in Madhya Pradesh. This is the first arrest made in the "Sulli Deals" app case. The app, which was launched last year, had listed Muslim women for 'auction' with photographs sourced without permission and doctored.. According to DCP KPS Malhotra, IFSO (Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations) unit, Special Cell nabbed the person based on the questioning of Niraj Bishnoi, the creator of the Bulli Bai app.Aumkareshwar Thakur, 25, confessed to the police that he created the Sulli Deals app on GitHub in July 2021. The app uploaded photos of several Muslim women without their consent for a virtual "auction".
Thakur, 26, did his BCA from IPS Academy in Indore. He developed the code for the 'Sulli Deals' on GitHub and shared the app on Twitter. In January 2020, Thakur had joined a group called 'Trade Mahasabha' using the Twitter handle 'gangescion'. According to police, he had developed the code on hosting platform GitHub and the access was given to all members of the group. He had shared the app on his Twitter account. Thakur had deleted all his social media accounts after the app hit the headlines recently. Police are questioning him and scanning through the gadgets they found on him.
