Arrest Ashraf Ghani over treasury theft,demands Afghan Embassy

In a latest development, the Afghanistan embassy inTajikistan has demanded Interpol police to arrest former Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, Afghan National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib and the former Chief Advisor to Ghani, Fazel Mahmood.A local media report on Wednsday said that the arrest was demanded after Ashraf Ghani, Hamdullah Mohib and Fazel Mahmood Fazly were accused of theft of the treasury. The Afghanistan embassy demanded that Ghani should hand the treasury over to an international tribunal to restore the people's wealth.

Ashraf Ghani, who fled the war-torn country as the Taliban took control of Kabul, was reported to have been landed in Oman after Tajikistan denied his entry into its territory. Media reports suggested that Ghani may have fled to neighbouring Tajikistan or Uzbekistan. An academic and economist, Ashraf Ghani was the 14th President of Afghanistan. He was first elected on September 20, 2014 and was re-elected in the September 28, 2019 presidential election. Meanwhile Ghani and his family is in UAE.  "The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation can confirm that the UAE has welcomed President Ashraf Ghani and his family into the country on humanitarian grounds," it said in a brief statement.

European Parliament President David Sassoli said on Wednesday that the European Union has a responsibility to accept Afghan refugees and cannot leave people who worked for the bloc in Afghanistan to "face revenge". He said refugees arriving from Afghanistan, which is now in the hands of the Taliban, should be distributed evenly among EU member states. The British government on Wednesday said it would take in 5,000 Afghan refugees this year, primarily women and children. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said a new “generous” refugee settlement program would allow up to 20,000 vulnerable Afghans to seek sanctuary in the U.K. in the coming years. Boris Johnson said the UK would work to unite the international community behind a “clear plan for dealing with the Taliban.

Fearing a new refugee crisis, Turkey is sending soldiers to reinforce its border with Iran in order to stop a potential influx of Afghans fleeing the Taliban insurgency, The Associated Press reported. Irregular arrivals are already up as Afghans who fled weeks and months ago show up at Turkey’s rugged border area after a long trek across Iran. A group of Afghans near the border told AP that they had deserted the Afghan military and fled the country as the Taliban offensive accelerated. Taliban fighters used gunfire, whips, sticks and sharp objects to maintain crowd control over thousands of Afghans who continued to wait for a way out on the Kabul airport road. A US new paper correspondent give details in his tweet.

The Taliban killed two protestors who were carrying the flag of Afghanistan during demonstrations in Jalalabad and dozens were reportedly injured, Al Arabiya English reported. According to TOLO News, a group of locals took to the street as they demanded the restoration of the Afghan national flag in place of the Taliban flag.
