Uttarakhand Cabinet clears HC land transfer, Ganga E-way extension

The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Friday approved a proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh government for extending the Ganga Expressway from Meerut to Haridwar. Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Director General of Information and Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister Banshidhar Tiwari said in Dehradun, that the two states would work on the project's framework and implementation after the MoU is signed. He said the project would strengthen connectivity between the two states and give a boost to religious tourism, industrial investment, trade and employment. The Ganga Expressway is a 594-km, six-lane access-controlled greenfield expressway, that runs from western to eastern Uttar Pradesh, broadly parallel to the river Ganga. Phase I of the project runs from Meerut to Prayagraj. The project is also being positioned as an industrial corridor, to attract investment and boost regional economies.
In another major decision, the Uttarakhand State cabinet granted its nod for the much-awaited land transfer proposal for a new High Court Complex to be relocated in Haldwani. Tiwari said that the cabinet approved the proposal to transfer around 40 hectares of the available 73 hectares forest land in the Lamachaur area of Haldwani on the Rudrapur-Haldwani Road needed for construction of the new High Court building. The decision to relocate the HC campus from Nainital hill Town to the plain location in Haldwani was taken by the apex court of the state mainly for lack of adequate space at its current location and disturbances caused by the hectic tourism activities.
