In UP, more than 5.59 lakh citizens in the state have submitted applications to become registered voters, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said on Sunday. In a statement issued in Lucknow, the UP CEO's office noted that citizens participated enthusiastically in special campaign days organised across the state, aimed at including eligible individuals who had been left out of the electoral roll. The campaign particularly focused on encouraging women and youth to register.
The initiative aimed to ensure all eligible citizens not yet on the electoral rolls could register. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were present at all polling stations from 10 AM to 4 PM, guiding citizens through the registration process and assisting with corrections to existing details. The campaign also focused on educating the public about the
importance of their electoral rights.
The Chief Electoral Officer commended the efforts of district election officers in Hathras, Ghazipur, Sambhal, Kaushambi, Mathura, Amethi, and Barabanki for their effective management of the drive. However, he urged officials in Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Varanasi, Bhadohi, Prayagraj, Hamirpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Amroha, Meerut, and Gautam Buddh Nagar to intensify their efforts in future campaigns.
