UP govt readies Rs 25k cr supplementary budget ahead of 2027 polls

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday chaired a Cabinet meeting ahead of the presentation of the state's supplementary budget in the Legislative Assembly during the ongoing Monsoon Session.This meeting is perceived as an important event, as it may establish several policy decisions crucial for the supplementary budget and delineate the government’s legislative objectives for the session. The Yogi administration is poised to introduce a supplementary budget exceeding Rs 25,000 crore, designed to enhance development initiatives and reinforce administrative agendas.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviews proposals as government prepares to table additional funding for ongoing schemesThe four-day session, which began on Monday, will continue until August 6. The supplementary budget is aimed at providing additional financial support for ongoing development projects and newly announced government schemes.


This supplementary allocation is to be in conjunction with the existing Rs 9.12 lakh crore annual budget that was previously presented. The proposed funding is being viewed as a strategic step leading up to the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The government aims to emphasise flagship infrastructure and developmental projects over the next two years, with officials stating that this enhanced expenditure will facilitate the faster implementation of essential initiatives, alongside reinforcing the state’s extensive development agenda.
According to agency reports,Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said the additional allocations are intended to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects and facilitate works undertaken in the public interest."The provisions in the supplementary budget are specifically meant to complete the ongoing schemes and carry out the necessary work in the public interest. This budget will further accelerate the state's development," Khanna said.
Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana said the supplementary budget is a routine financial exercise that enables the government to allocate funds for schemes announced after the annual budget and meet expenditure requirements under various departments.On the opening day of the Monsoon Session, Chief Minister Adityanath urged legislators to hold meaningful discussions on issues concerning the poor, youth, farmers and women. He also criticised the Samajwadi Party over its allegations regarding donations for the Ram Mandir, claiming the party had earlier opposed the temple's construction.
