Maratha reservation can't be restored unless cap relaxed-Raut
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday said, unless the 50 per cent cap on reservations is relaxed, the constitutional amendment on allowing states to prepare their own OBC list will not help and the Maratha quota cannot be restored. Talking to reporters in Mumbai after meeting Shiv Sena president and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Raut said he briefed the CM about the developments related to reservation.
Relief package cleared
Maharashtra cabinet has cleared a relief package of Rs 11,500 crore for flood affected areas in Konkan and western Maharashtra.. The package includes Rs 1,500 crore ex-gratia for relief to affected people, Rs 3,000 crore for reconstruction and Rs 7,000 crore for execution of long term plans to avoid future disasters. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that there should be a comprehensive and permanent policy to tackle disasters caused by natural calamities. He said that for this a committee . comprising experts in the field and administrative officials should be formed with the participation of National Water Development Agency and a report should be presented to the Cabinet. The Chief Minister said that a three year scientific programme would be carried out on the Gandhari, Savitri and Vashishithi rivers, which would include constructing and deepening retaining walls.Relief and rehabilitation minister Vijai Wadettiwar said the package may increase as the assessment of damage in flood affected districts was yet to be completed and it was expected that it would be complete in next few days.
Covid-19: Maharashtra to announce more relaxations in the days to come
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced on Saturday that the state government was planning more relaxations in a few days for the hotels and restaurants. He also added that the relaxations would be announced for Mumbai Local Trains also. Speaking at a function organised by the BEST ( Brihanmumbai Electric supply and Transport) undertaking to induct more electric buses into its fleet, chief minister also said that he had met with the representatives of hotels and restaurants who demanded further relaxations in timings beyond 4 pm but he explained to them that curbs would be eased step by step cautiously.Thackeray said that Maharashtra government was going to grant more relaxations and a decision would be taken for local train passengers as well. He said there was a need to ensure that these relaxations would not trigger another wave of Covid-19. Meanwhile, Dy CM Ajit Pawar has announced that In Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, all the shops to remain open till 8pm for six days a week. All hotels, restaurants allowed to operate with 50% seating capacity till 10pm on all days. All relaxations to be effective from 9th August. As per information the Maharashtra, on sunday reported 5,508 new Covid cases and 151 fatalities.It is to recalled that the state government had recently introduced several relaxations in 25 districts which have a low Covid-19 positivity rate.
