Northern Region Agriculture conference held in Lucknow

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday addressed the inaugural session of the Northern Region Agriculture Conference in Lucknow . Chouhan stated that the Ministry of Agriculture is ready to work in close coordination with all states. He emphasised that a state-wise roadmap for agriculture will be developed collectively, and this conference will play a key role in that process. The Union Minister further added that the Farmer ID serves as the identity of farmers and provides access to 17 types of facilities. He highlighted that the Viksit Bharat Krishi Abhiyan was launched to bridge the gap between laboratories and farmlands. Through this campaign, the government has reached more than 60,000 villages, delivering modern research, new technologies, and practical solutions directly to farmers. Union Minister also informed that regional conferences are being organised to make planning for the Kharif and Rabi seasons more effective and practical. Earlier, a single conference used to be held in Delhi to plan for both seasons across the country. However, given that India has more than 15 agro-climatic zones-with diverse soils, climates, and water availability-it was felt that one conference was not sufficient.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the country comprises various agro-climatic zones, and organising seminars and workshops across these distinct regions leads to tangible results. He noted that scientific advancements from laboratories are now being successfully implemented directly in the fields. The Chief Minister added that India already has sufficient resources, but decisive leadership is needed to drive initiatives forward. He stated that when initiatives are led by the Government of India, state governments follow suit. He emphasised the need to provide opportunities to farmers, noting that they are ready and capable of delivering results. The CM said, in Uttar Pradesh, where the rate of agricultural development was 8 percent, today it has risen to as much as 18 percent.

During the thematic sessions,in-depth reviews and discussions on key topics such as the Kisan Credit Card, the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, the vast potential of horticulture, the Pulse Self-Reliance Mission, the National Food Oil-Oilseed Mission, and the Farmer Registry under the Digital Agriculture Mission were discussed.
