MP Cabinet clears UCC Bill, approves Rs 776 crore health infra plan

The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on Sunday unanimously approved the draft Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill-2026, paving the way for its introduction in the Assembly during the session beginning Monday.According to agency reports,the Cabinet also cleared a Rs 776.13 crore proposal to upgrade healthcare infrastructure across the state.
Announcing the decision after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Dr.Mohan Yadav said the government had fully prepared the legislation for presentation in the Assembly and described the move as a step rooted in India's long-standing tradition of equality."The Cabinet has wholeheartedly and unanimously approved the UCC Bill-2026. Equality has always been an integral part of Indian culture and values, and with this spirit the government has taken this important step," Yadav said, congratulating his Cabinet colleagues and the people of the state.

The Bill will now be tabled in the Assembly, where it will be debated before being put to vote. If passed, the government will proceed with its implementation.Addressing reporters, the Chief Minister also spoke about Bhopal's historical legacy, tracing its roots to the Parmar and Gond dynasties. He highlighted the contributions of rulers such as King Bhoj, Madan Shah and Sangram Shah, while recalling the courage of Queen Kamalapati after the death of King Nizam Shah. He also referred to the later rule of Afghan noble Dost Mohammad Khan and subsequent political developments that shaped the region's history.
In another key decision, the Cabinet approved an outlay of Rs 776.13 crore to strengthen healthcare infrastructure by upgrading 73 health institutions across Madhya Pradesh.Under the plan, 29 sub-health centres will be upgraded into six-bed Primary Health Centres (PHCs), 19 PHCs will be expanded into Community Health Centres (CHCs), 18 CHCs will be converted into 50-bed civil hospitals, and seven health institutions will be upgraded into 100-bed hospitals.To support the expanded network, the Cabinet approved the creation of 1,600 regular posts, 71 contractual positions, and the engagement of 560 outsourced personnel. It also sanctioned an annual expenditure of Rs 122.83 crore for the operation and maintenance of the upgraded facilities.The government said the initiative is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, by increasing bed capacity, reducing pressure on existing hospitals and minimising the need for patients to travel long distances for specialised treatment. Officials said the expanded network would strengthen the state's public health infrastructure and improve overall patient care.
