In Tamil Nadu, Kayalvizhi, daughter of former Union minister MK Alagiri and granddaughter of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, has been booked for allegedly assaulting and intimidating the manager of a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Chennai. The accused committed the act during a heated conversation with the bank official in his office cabin at downtown Adyar, and a CCTV camera recorded it, Chennai Police said.The incident happened on July 20.

It is said that, the bank branch is located in a building allegedly owned by Kayalvizhi and the argument was allegedly over a malfunctioning lift in the building. A grievance over the building’s maintenance snowballed into the physical altercation.Kayalvizhi's father Alagiri was expelled by Karunandhi from his Dravida Munnetra. Kazhagam in 2014 on grounds of anti-party activities. She has been booked on charges of assaulting and threatening the bank official. Further investigation is underway.
